New release from Connaught

Connacht distillery have shared news of a new whiskey release.

Following some years of “Straw Boys” vodka and poitín sales the team at Connacht have refreshed the brand and it’s packaging with a more contemporary look. They have also taken the opportunity to introduce a new Irish Whiskey under the Straw Boys brand, giving us “Straw Boys Irish Whiskey”.

Connacht have sourced Irish grain whiskey and bottled it at the distillery in Ballina at 43% ABV. While the first export order has already left for Italy they are introducing it first within Ireland to their Cask Club Charter members. Members of the Cask Club Charter can also benefit from a 10% pre-release discount before it goes on general sale.

Straw Boys Irish Whiskey will retail from the Connacht website priced at €34.99.

Tasting notes from Connacht:

Colour:

Straw, winter sun

Nose:

Intense fruity sweetness from ripe apples, pear and tropical passion fruit, zesty notes from oranges and floral notes from orange blossoms, the grain character is very obvious with slightly dusty notes like on a warm summer day during harvest, soft spices like vanilla and mace round off a very smooth and balanced smell.

Palate:

The fruity sweetness plays the main role again, directly followed by lively orange zests and fresh spicy aromas. Maturation notes influenced by oak barrels and oxidation stay in the background and contribute to complexity. The whiskey is nearly silky on the tongue since the alcohol is very well integrated.

Finish:

Still fruity and soft spicy with sweet-peppery notes like from cubeb pepper berries. Later slightly oily with some roasted aromas.
